Chiropractic improves the function of the human body by re-establishing normal relationships between nerves, muscles and joints creating better balance resulting in less pain, increased flexibility and a better sense of wellbeing.  This is achieved by focusing on releasing pressure on nerves allowing the nervous system to work like it should.

The body has an amazing ability to self-regulate and maintain proper function.  In scientific terms this is called “maintaining homeostasis.”  Think of all the functions that happen within your body from moment to moment. It is really quite incredible.  But on occasion something goes wrong, an injury happens, or the body gets overloaded and doesn’t keep things in balance like it should.  In these situations, treatment can be required to get back on track.  This is where Chiropractic fits in.  Chiropractic gets you moving again back towards your normal homeostasis.

This might sound complicated but can be as simple as

  • releasing uneven muscle tension
  • correcting posture and improving neck alignment
  • creating joint mobility in the spine to help you stand straighter
  • improve circulation to reduce inflammation
  • allow the body to heal from chronic irritation

So how is all of this done?  Chiropractic involves manual treatment to restore regular function including the following:

  • spinal manipulation or “adjustments”
  • soft tissue work
  • stretches and exercises
  • mechanized forms of movement release

As well, Chiropractors will often discuss posture and ergonomic issues, give advice on nutrition and sleep habits.  These days stress management strategies also come into play for most people recovering from chronic issues.

When all these approaches are applied together as one healthcare system it is called Chiropractic.  This gives us a unique way of addressing many common complaints we now face as humans.  The list of issues that can respond to Chiropractic is long but often involves:

  • back pain
  • neck pain
  • pinched nerves
  • sciatica
  • stenosis and arthritic disorders
  • disc herniations and degenerative disc disease
  • headaches and migraines
  • joint sprains and strains
  • jaw pain and /TMJ syndrome

Because Chiropractic takes such a comprehensive, hands-on approach to treatment it is often used by professional and amateur athletes alike for knee injuries, hip strains, ankle and foot pains, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome just to name a few.
